Compassion Fatigue (Burnout)
Ahfiya Howard-Cunningham, DrPH, MSW
Ahfiya Howard-Cunningham is a native of Jackson, Mississippi, and a proud graduate of Jackson State University. She holds a Doctor of Public Health and a Master of Social Work. Ahfiya has several years of experience as a licensed social worker and mental health therapist. Dr. Howard-Cunningham has over 12 years of experience working in higher education, where she has served as department chair, assistant professor, and adjunct instructor, teaching social work and public health education. Some of her proudest accomplishments include developing a study abroad program in Argentina and assisting in developing a food pantry for minority students at Jackson State University. Further, she worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, focusing on HIV, Tuberculosis, and Pneumonia in West and South Africa. Some of her research has focused on maternal health, mental health, compassion fatigue, and food insecurity. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and believes in staying true to herself, trusting God, and the rest will follow.
