NEW MT. ROSE MBC CELEBRITIES

Kirk Franklin came to Mt. Rose as a young boy, (age 11). Pastor Kelly took him under his wings and nurtured him, becoming his benefactor giving him the opportunity to improve and perfect his knowledge and skills of piano and organ. Today, Kirk is internationally known for being an American songwriter, choir director, and gospel recording artist. Kirk has won numerous awards, including 19 Grammy Awards.

June Kelly Johnson a graduate of Fisk University and daughter of Pastor Milford and Sis. Hattie Kelly was crowned the “1 st Miss Black Teenage America”. This was the front-page news in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. She was featured in Jet Magazine, celebrated in Pepsi photo shoots, and showcased her talent in the popular TV show, Room 222.

 

Mr. Donald Curry, a member of Mount Rose BC, became the city’s first world champion boxer.

 

Erma Chansler Johnson Hadley, a faithful member and the first woman and first African American to serve as chancellor of Tarrant County Colleges.
