Boundaries are Holy
Mark Cunningham Jr., Ph.D., MBA, MDiv

A spirit-filled man of God, Dr. Cunningham is dedicated to a holistic ministry that addresses the mind, body, and soul. His work is deeply rooted in the belief that "through God, all things are possible," particularly for those who are marginalized or oppressed. Dr. Cunningham’s ministry is informed by his extensive background as both a medical researcher and a community organizer.
Professionally, Dr. Mark Cunningham is an Assistant Professor at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. A native of Atlanta and a Morehouse College alumnus, he earned his PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Florida and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He also holds an MBA from Millsaps College and a Master of Divinity from the Interdenominational Theological Center.
With over 50 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Cunningham’s research focuses on the cardiovascular and renal impacts of early-life stressors. His work investigates how complicated pregnancies and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) increase long-term risks for heart and kidney disease, with the goal of developing new therapies to improve outcomes for mothers and children.
Dr. Cunningham is passionate about mentoring, teaching, and fighting for social justice. He is happily married to Dr. Ahfiya Howard-Cunningham and a member of Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. To improve mental health, he recommends incorporating several key practices: self-reflection, self-knowledge, boundary-setting, stress management, and a spiritual focus on God for purpose.
